UPPER DARBY » People are invited to bring their chair or blanket for seating at the Minas’ free one-hour concert on the lawn of the Sellers Memorial Branch of the Upper Darby Township Library, 7 p.m. Friday, August 5.

From small intimate settings to large venues, Orlando Haddad and Patricia King of Minas (minasmusic. com) enchant audiences with their magical and unique sound, artistry, and warmth. Minas takes Brazilian and American roots to create a sound that is fresh and innovative, from ballads tinged with melancholic traits of blues and choro, to folk coasting on the subtle coolness of a bossa nova pulse, to upbeat sambas elaborated with instrumental jazz improvisation, scat singing, and whimsical whistling.

With a catalogue of eight recordings released on their label Bluezul and a collection of over 100 songs, Orlando

and Patricia’s compositions have been compared to classics by Cole Porter and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Capturing the essence of great songwriting with memorable melodies, inventive harmonies, and poetic lyrics, the music of Minas is engaging and timeless. For everyone’s comfort and safety, pets are not permitted. Those who use a sprayon sunscreen and/or bug repellant, must apply prior to arrival. Alcohol and smoking will be prohibited.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the accessible Adult Library. Call the library at 610-789-4440 for more information. The Sellers Memorial Branch is located at 76 South State Rd., Upper Darby.
