Football Friday comes a day early this week. We have four games on tap Thursday evening as some schools wish to get a head start on their Labor Day weekend.

Here are the top games to watch involving Delaware County teams:

Thursday

Radnor at Springfield, 7

Natural Central League rivals Radnor and Springfield are part of the early show this week. The Raptors defeated West Philadelphia, 25-6, in Kyle Yeiter’s head coaching debut. Quarterback Tucker Graham ran for 88 yards with a pair of touchdowns and threw a TD pass to Nick Monty.

Ty Gougler rushed for 124 yards and two scores in the Cougars’ 27-0 win over Cardinal O’Hara. Sophomore fullback Nate Romano added a 63-yard scoring jaunt and finished with 96 yards on eight carries. Ethan Marshall led a stout defensive performance with nine tackles.

Cardinal O’Hara at Chichester, 7

The Lions look to bounce back from their shutout loss to Springfield. They totaled 97 yards on the night. Kobena Okyne recorded 12 tackles and Edmund Wisseh added nine, including a sack.

The Eagles managed only a safety on their way to a 19-2 setback to Harry S Truman. Quadir Blackwell ran for 77 yards and had four catches for 24 yards.

Kensington at Strath Haven, 7

Anthony Crawford was a beast on both sides of the ball in the Panthers’ 27-13 win over Interboro. The senior running back/linebacker ran for 151 yards and three TDs, and registered a game-high 13 tackles.

The Pirates, who are from the Philadelphia Public League, opened their season with a 21-6 defeat at Collingswood (N.J.).

Interboro at Pottstown, 7

Senior running back Abu Kamara amassed 126 yards on the ground and hauled in five passes for 46 yards in the Bucs’ loss to Strath Haven. Eddie Jeffery led the defense with 12 tackles.

The Trojans were blown out by Lower Merion, 35-0, and have not won a game since Oct. 18, 2019.

Friday

Coatesville at Academy Park, 1

The Knights dug deep to pull out a come-from-behind victory at Unionville, 13-7. In the third quarter Jerae Cavanaugh intercepted a pass and went 46 yards to the house for the go-ahead score.

Terrence Oliver had a big game out of the backfield, amassing 127 yards on 15 carries, including a 51-yard TD run.

The Red Raiders, who were last year’s runners up in the District 1 Class 6A, cruised to a 28-6 win over Pennsbury. Quarterback Harrison Susi ran for 107 yards and two TDs while the Coatesville defense racked up 13 tackles for losses.

Bonner-Prendergast at Haverford School, 4

The Friars earned a 12-0 win over Upper Darby in a game that was stopped with 10:51 left in the fourth quarter due to a disturbance in the crowd. Colin Finnegan threw a 23-yard scoring pass to Jalil Hall and Avery Hankey scored on a 27yard run.

The Fords, 5-4 last season, anticipate big things from senior quarterback Gavin Wright, who missed all of 2021 due to injury. Rice commit James Falk is a top target at tight end.

Episcopal vs. ConwellEgan at Rowan, 4

Junior Na’Rome Rayborn takes over at quarterback for the Churchmen, who finished 6-4 last year. At 6-foot4, TJ Lamb is a big target at wide receiver.

Colin Majors rushed for 156 yards and two TDs in the Eagles’ 48-20 decision over Upper Merion last week.

Ridley at Haverford, 6

The Green Raiders hope their Pennsylvania debut goes much better than their season opener in Crestview (Fla.), where they suffered a 55-21 loss.

The Fords also look to get off the schneid following a 27-7 loss to Souderton. Ethan Mahan had six receptions for 78 yards and quarterback Tommy Wright threw for 126 yards.

Marple Newtown at Penncrest, 7

Brian Box’s three TD runs carried the Tigers to a 42-6 shellacking of Boys Latin. Quarterback Dave Bertoline connected with Alex Gillian for a 78-yard TD pass.

Matt Ferry produced 104 yards on the ground and 117 receiving in the Lions’ 27-19 defeat at Sun Valley. Ferry had both a touchdown catch and run.

Upper Darby at Garnet Valley, 7

The Royals managed only 100 yards of total offense before play was suspended in their loss to Bonner-Prendie. Montez Ellis led the way with 64 yards on 11 carries.

GV opens Central League play with a 34-game winning streak in league competition. The Jaguars rallied for a 14-7 victory over Central Bucks West last week. Jason Bernard’s touchdown scamper with 16 seconds to play was the difference.
