Wood, Zakarian help Jaguars net a volleyball victory

Sarah Wood (three aces) and Kiaira Zakarian each tallied 17 kills to help Garnet Valley’s volleyball team take down Downingtow­n West, 3-1. The set scores were 2025, 25-6, 25-11, 25-13.

Maddie Wood dished out 48 assists and Isabella Tront provided four kills and three blocks. Sarah Weins chipped in with six kills.

In other nonleague action:

NOTRE DAME 3, RUSTIN 2 >> The Irish rallied from two sets down to earn their first win of the season. Katia Hemphill (21 digs) excelled on defense along with Maddi Brown, who paired 12 digs with 11 kills. Margo Kemp registered 24 kills.

UNIONVILLE 3, STRATH HAVEN 0 >>; The Panthers were swept by the Longhorns 16-25, 1425, 16-25. Oyindamola Sondonuga had five aces and Aislin O’Neill posted 11 digs and four aces for the Panthers.

WEST CHESTER EAST 3, PENNCREST 0 >> Liz Kurcon totaled 17 kills and 23 digs in the Lions’ loss (17-25, 20-25, 22-25). Chloe Breeze added 26 digs and Maddy Bachovchin supplied 20 assists.

Girls Soccer

Becca Roberts scored twice and freshmen Shea Barker and Madelyn Mea each netted a goal as Interboro won its season opener against Reading, 5-0.

Kyleigh and Morgan Mea provided strong defense in front of goalie Sarah Kerr.

Boys Soccer

Aaron Jackson scored a goal and keepers Naseem Altayeb and Musah Kromah combined for 10 saves, but host Chichester suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Octorara.

In other nonleague action :

EPISCOPAL 1, ROMAN CATHOLIC 1 >> Eddie Jones had a goal off a pass from Dylan Vengochea for the Churchmen (1-0-1). Goalie Akora Heath stopped four shots.

Girls Tennis

Abby Rappaport, Minori Saito and Lucy Hewitt were victorious in straight sets as Strath Haven bested Penncrest, 7-0.

LOWER MERION 7, GARNET VALLEY 0 >> This match was closer than the final score indicates. All of the singles matches went three sets.

No. 1 Taryn Law lost to Anna Costantino 6-4, 4-6, 6-2; No. 2 Marina Kondo fell to Brady Smith 7-5, 5-7, 6-3; and No. 3 Sanjana Balaji came up short against Zoe Hossett 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

At third doubles, Haley Maloney and Talon Law lost to Eliza Castello and Katie Haves 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Golf

Shawn Mazzalupi carded a match low of 37 to lead Radnor to a 204-214 win over Strath Haven at Springhave­n Country Club’s par-35 course.

Lannon Boyd (38) and Michael Slinkard (40) also performed well for the Raptors. Tyler Debusscher­e shot a 38 for the Panthers.
