49ers lose star receiver Deebo Samuel to ankle injury
SANTA CLARA, CALIF. » San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel was taken off the field on a cart after injuring his left ankle on a running play Sunday.
Samuel’s leg buckled as he fumbled on a carry late in the second quarter of San Francisco’s win over Tampa Bay.
Samuel stayed down for a few minutes as he was tended to by the training staff before trying stand up. He immediately went back to the ground.
This is the second straight week the Niners have had a key offensive player go down with what looked like a serious injury after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo broke his left foot in the first quarter
last week.
Wilson leaves in concussion protocol
DENVER » Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was ruled out with a concussion after taking a big hit in the fourth quarter against Kansas City.
Wilson scrambled for a first down near the goal line but was stopped by a wall of defenders. He stayed down for a moment before getting up and walking toward the sideline.
Brett Rypien entered while Wilson went into the blue medical tent. Rypien completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy on fourth down.
