Celebrate Valentine’s Day with free chocolate sampling event
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Media Fair Trade Committee will join forces with the Media-Upper Providence Free Library to present a free Fair Trade Chocolate Sampling event, Saturday, Feb. 11 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the library’s upstairs large conference room.
A short PowerPoint presentation will be shown, followed by the sampling of various Fair Trade chocolate bars that are available in Media.
Last year, according to the Fair Trade Committee, the top four chocolate companies made over $50 billion. Yet, tens of thousands of traditional cocoa bean farmers can barely feed their families.
On Saturday, all are invited to celebrate the heart of a caring community whose residents, stores, restaurants, schools, churches and government do their part to support Fair Trade and help to create a world where people receive a fair living wage.
In the Fair Trade town of Media, local schools buy Fair Trade produce and fruit juices. Congregations support Fair Trade foods, flowers and candles and local shops carry Fair Trade clothing, crafts, soaps, coffees, teas and chocolate.
At Saturday’s event, Fair Trade chocolates from brands that include Divine, Equal Exchange, Tony’s Chocolonely and more will be sampled. Local stores in Media that have made the community-wide commitment to carry these Fair
Trade chocolates include Trader Joe’s, Ten Thousand Villages, Martindale’s, Earth & State and Acme.
