Delco Foundation to welcome Black-led nonprofits for event
Delco Press Club celebrates Black History Month and Chinese Lunar New Year
MEDIA » The Foundation For Delaware County will host its first Get To Know Us event for Black-led nonprofits in Delaware County, Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Boys and Girls Club of Chester.
In partnership with the Philanthropy Network of Greater Philadelphia, the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, and the Boys & Girls Club of Chester, Get to Know Us creates a safe space for Black-led nonprofits and funders to build and strengthen authentic relationships and offers an opportunity for funders to learn about the impact of local, Black-led nonprofits and their work in Delaware County.

A public charity founded in 2016, the Foundation is the largest philanthropy serving Delaware County.
One of 780 community foundations across the U.S., the Foundation offers support and resources for nonprofits of every size, helps generous people give with more impact, brings together funders, nonprofits, and elected officials to address critical community problems, and responds to major challenges and crises as they arise.
Last year, the Foundation awarded more than $2.3 million in Impact Grants and charitable care.
In addition, the Foundation operates the Center for Nonprofit Excellence to strengthen Delaware County’s nonprofit community through training workshops and peer-learning opportunities.
The Foundation encourages philanthropy by connecting donors to worthy causes through efficient charitable giving vehicles like donor-advised and scholarship funds.
The Foundation operates the prestigious evidencebased programs Healthy Start, the WIC nutrition program, and Nurse-Family Partnership.

Press Club celebrates Lunar New Year and Black History Month at Margaret Kuo’s
Margaret Kuo’s Kitchen will host the Delaware County Press Club’s Lunar New Year Luncheon and Black History Month celebration with special guests Paul Bennett, publisher, The Spirit Newspaper, and Richard Blye, Juneteenth Artistic Collaborative Experience of Delco, noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m.
Paul Bennett will share his insights into the importance and impact of community journalism.
His company, Spirit Media Group, is the only minority-owned news and media company based in Delaware County.
In 2022, Spirit Media Group received the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award. Also founder of the Association of Black Journalists, Bennett will review his more than 50 years as a journalist.
Richard Blye and his Juneteenth Artistic Collaborative Experience committee played an important role in bringing recognition of Juneteenth to Delaware County.
In appreciation of their devotion to their mission of remembering, memorializing, educating, and celebrating African American history in America, Blye and his committee were recognized with the Dedication to Education Award by the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association and Delaware County Council at the Veterans Freedom Medal Dinner in November.
Adding to the program, guests will experience the culinary culture of China as they enjoy a Lunar New Year celebration lunch featuring a selection of Chinese specialties created by Kuo, a Delaware Valley businesswoman and entrepreneur, a James Beard Foundation Featured Chef, and her team at Margaret Kuo’s Kitchen.
Margaret Kuo’s is a 2022 Best of the Main Line winner.
The menu will include Open-end Mandarin Pork Dumpling with Ginger Dipping Sauce, New Year Jumbo Shrimp with Sweet and Sour Sauce, General Tso’s Chicken, Black Pepper Flank Steak Cooked in Shao Shin Rice Wine, Scallion Fried Rice and Lychee Fruit Sorbet with Almond Cookie.
Press Club events are open to the public.
Members cost $35 with reservations in advance and nonmembers and walk-ins cost $40.

Event at Springfield Country Club raises funds for Philly St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Everyone is invited to a fundraiser for the 2023 Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Sunday, March 5 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road, Springfield. Tickets include admission and buffet dinner, with cash bar.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children and they will be available at the door.

St. Gabe’s seeks golfers for inaugural golf outing
St. Gabriel Parish in Norwood is currently seeking golfers for its Inaugural Golf Outing for Friday, May 5 at the Ed Oliver Golf Club in Wilmington, Delaware.
The price per golfer is $125, which includes a round of golf, range balls, continental breakfast and buffet luncheon. Sign-ins will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m., followed by a continental breakfast, and golf cart assignments. The outing will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Gift basket raffles, 50/50s and “mulligan” sales will be available. Golfers can look forward to prizes for holein-one, closest to the pin, longest drive and winning foursome.

Irish-American trip performs at Lima UM Church
“Poor Man’s Gambit,” an Irish-American trio, will perform a free concert on Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m. at the Lima United Methodist Church, 209 N. Middletown Road, Middletown Township.
The trio has released three albums and has completed two international tours. Instruments feature fiddle, button accordion,

CBS3 meteorologist speaks at Tasty Talk luncheon
Realtor Michelle Leonard will host her next Tasty Talks luncheon at noon Thursday, Feb. 16 at Saffron Indian Kitchen, 145 Montgomery Ave., Bala Cynwyd, featuring special guest CBS3 meteorologist Andrew Kozak.
Born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y., Kozak graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta with a degree in meteorology, and had internship experience at WABC in New York City. Six days after graduating, he was out at his first on-air job in Casper, Wyoming, forecasting the weather and cohosting the morning show for the ABC affiliate.
Since then, he spent the better part of the last two decades tracking severe storms, tornadoes, floods and blizzards in Wichita, Tulsa, Memphis and Columbus. He also spent some time helping out weather teams in Austin and Kansas City. He has co-hosted an entertainment show and hosted numerous entertainment, travel and celebrity segments as well.
Kozak joined the CBS 3 team in September.
