Siegrist top Philly women’s scorer, leads ’Nova past St. John’s

The closer the Villanova women get to tournament time, the tougher the Wildcats and their shining scoring star Maddy Siegrist seem to get.

Senior scorer Siegrist chalked up 39 points Wednesday night, including three hits from beyond the arc, and punctuated that performanc­e with 11 rebounds, as the ‘Cats went on the road and took down St. John’s, 73-57.

Villanova, ranked 14th in the nation by Associated Press and 15th in the coaches poll, improved to 23-4 overall, and 14-2 in Big East play.

Siegrist became the alltime leading scorer in the history of Philadelph­ia women’s Division I college basketball. She now has 2,610 career points. The previous mark was 2,581 by Drexel’s Gabriela Marginean (2006-10).

Lucy Olsen chipped in with 14 points, and Christina Dalce had six points and 11 rebounds. For St. John’s, Mimi Reid had a team-high 23 points.

CABRINI 68, NEUMANN 49 »

Emma Pyne led the way for Cabrini with 14 points while Katie Rodriguez added 12 as the Cavaliers outpointed the Knights.

Lauren Klieber was high for Neumann with 22 points, while Terea Hunt scored 12 points. Neumann’s Giana Rullo added 11.

HAVERFORD 51, SWARTHMORE 38 » Kayla Robinson had a monster game, registerin­g a game-high 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Gia Flamini added 11 points as the Fords improved to 15-9 and 12-7 in the Centennial Conference.

Dana Bandurick was high for Swarthmore at 13 points, along with eight rebounds.

Men’s

Kyle Thompson made

three straight free throws down the stretch to help Neumann seal an 85-80 victory over Cabrini.

Jalen Vaughns poured in 27 points for the Knights. Ryan Starr had 17 and 10 assists. Thompson scored 15 points off the bench.

Ryan Byars led four Cavaliers in double figures with 18 points. Abmadou Sarnor totaled 17 points, Aquil Stewart netted 16 and Donovan Mack ended with 15.

Hassan Drame tallied 16 points and the Explorers (1313) won their fifth in a row.

Fousseyni Drame posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jhamir Brickus tossed in 13 points and Khalil Brantley finished with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

DUQUESNE 76, SAINT JOSEPH’S 62 »

Lynn Greer III scored a game-high 22 points and Erik Reynolds II added 19 points for the Hawks.

CENTRAL PENN 60, WILLIAMSON 56 »

Freshman Rob Whiley paced the Mechanics on senior night with 19 points. Jack Grace (Ridley) added 12 points in his final game.
