Ridley senior honored for Eagle Scout achievement
Upcoming events in Delco include job fairs, St. Patrick’s Day parade fundraiser and more
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP » The Ridley School Board recently recognized Wyatt McCafferty, a Ridley High School senior, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout for his required Eagle project that involved the installation of three spectator benches at the high school tennis courts.
The school district purchased the benches but it was McCafferty, assisted by a small group of volunteers, who prepared the ground where the benches would sit.
Cement pads were poured and put in place and the benches were securely bolted. There is also a handicapped area next to a bench to accommodate a wheelchair. McCafferty is a captain of the Ridley High School boys tennis team. Now, the teammates, opponents and spectators can use the benches.
The new Eagle Scout is a member of Scout Troop 355 in Holmes under the leadership of Scoutmaster Mike McKinney. Wyatt is the son of Lyn McCafferty of Folsom and the grandson of Bonnie and Jerry McCafferty of Garnet Valley.
Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. Since its inception in 1911, only 4% of Scouts have earned this rank.
The school board also commended McCafferty and fellow Ridley senior Roman Varacalli for their outstanding performance on the preliminary Scholarship Aptitude Test.
