100 Years Ago, 1923:

One unfortunat­e faced Magistrate Elliott in police court this morning. He was John Lynch, 47 years old, of Claymont Del, found helplessly drunk at Fifth and Market streets yesterday afternoon by Traffic Officer Farraday. Lynch informed Magistrate Elliott it was his “first fall off the wagon” in 18 months and if given a chance would never drink liquor again. He was given the chance and lost no time getting out of the court room.

75Years Ago, 1948:

City Council today appropriat­e $60,000to finance two projects on the Chester River. The money, will be drawn from the $500,000bond issue of Oct. 1, 1945, is earmarked for the constructi­on of a foot bridge at Sixth Street and a dam north of the Ninth Street bridge. The bridge, approved last month by the Wharves and Docks Committee of the Navigation Commission, will give downtown shoppers access to the municipal parking lot now under constructi­on at Seventh Street and Chester River.

50 Years Ago, 1973:

Media Borough council voted 4-3 Thursday night to tie in Media Municipal (Water) Authority with the Chester Water Authority. The action, which was preceded by a full hour of forceful debate, will permit existing Media lines in Aston to be extended to the CWA’s tank farm in Aston where a tie-in would enable Media to draw a maximum 3-milion gallons of water per day. However, necessary action has not been taken on the proposal by the CWA board, CEA Executive Manager Victor A. Appleyard said today.

25 Years Ago, 1998:

A Norwood woman was charged with driving under the influence in Nether Providence Township after claiming her erratic driving was caused by diet pills. The 22-year-old was stopped by police around 2:50 a.m. Thursday after her car was seen weaving from lane to lane. At one point, her car was traveling in the opposite lane of traffic, police said. The woman appeared intoxicate­d, and told police she was “”whacked out” on diet medication, police said.

10 Years Ago, 2013:

With the help of her longtime friend Delilah Burnley, Saraea Alston-Leslie has moved her childhood dream of owning a restaurant onto the streets of Trainer and will be reaching the avenues of Manhattan next month. On Feb. 4, Alston-Leslie and Burnley opened the Post Road Bistro at 4106 Post Road and through its catering division, Drunken Sushi Catering, were sought out by Marvel US Management to serve “Heart A Cause: Autism” at the SONY Wodner Technology Lab on April 8.
