Montero’s triple in 5-run first boosts Rockies past Royals

KANSAS CITY, MO. » Elehuris Montero’s two-run triple highlighte­d Colorado’s five-run first inning and the Rockies hung on for a 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Matt Carasiti (1-0) earned the win with 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Austin Gomber, who allowed a pair of runs on six hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings. Justin Lawrence recorded four outs for his second save.

Luis Arraez had a careerhigh five hits and five RBIs and the Miami Marlins beat the Oakland Athletics 12-1 on Saturday.

The major leagues’ leading hitter, Arraez hit three doubles and two singles to raise his average to .390. Arraez also became the first player in franchise history with five hits and five RBIs in a game.

BLUE JAYS 2, METS 1 » Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a goahead RBI double in the ninth inning, leading the Toronto Blue Jays past the New York Mets 2-1 on Saturday.

ASTROS 9, ANGELS 6 » Alex Bregman hit a grand slam and Chas McCormick homered to help the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-6 on Saturday.

The Astros, who have won three straight, broke it open with a five-run fourth, capped by Bregman’s grand slam. Martín Maldonado, Mauricio Dubón and Jeremy Peña loaded the bases on three straight singles before Yordan Alvarez had an RBI infield hit to end Angels

starter Patrick Sandoval’s day.

Marcus Semien and Corey Seager had a hit apiece on the first two pitches of Bryan Woo’s major league career, sparking the Texas Rangers to a 16-6 rout of the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.

Semien doubled on the first pitch from Woo on his way to four hits, including a three-run homer. He extended his career-best hitting streak to 22 games, longest in the majors this season.

Yoán Moncada scampered home on a 10th-inning wild pitch that appeared to knock down umpire Cory Blaser, sending the Chicago White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.

All three runs in the game were scored on wild pitches.

BREWERS 10, REDS 8 » Blake Perkins hit a grand slam for his first career homer and drove in five runs, helping the Milwaukee Brewers top the Cincinnati Reds 10-8 on Saturday.

William Contreras also went deep in Milwaukee’s third win in four games. Colin Rea (3-3) pitched five innings of three-run ball for the NL Central leaders, and Devin Williams closed it out after the bullpen faltered.
