School director accused of sharing team’s game plan censured

-

A member of the West Mifflin school board apologized on Thursday after being accused of sharing the school football team’s plan with the opposing team last week.

However, he stopped short of resigning, despite many of the people in attendance at the school board meeting asking him to do just that.

“First of all, I’m not going to sit up here and deny some accusations,” Mark Yuhas said, according to KDKA. “I did something very stupid.”

“I am the one school board member that supports every one of the athletic programs,” he said. “But to these young men down here, I apologize. I truly do.”

That wasn’t enough for some members of the community.

“He needs to be removed from the board and they need to do it tonight. If not, the solicitor needs to go to the courts and have them remove him,” Diane Stanesic said, according to WPXI.

The football team’s captain also spoke out against Yuhas, calling the situation “chaos” and describing it as a betrayal, both news sites reported.

When asked if he would resign, however, Yuhas simply said, “No.”

In the end, the school board voted to censure Yuhas. As a result, he will not be able to attend any school sporting events or be on school grounds when classes are in session.

Yuhas has denied that he shared any playbook information, saying instead that he had a heated exchange with a coach of the opposing team, Elizabeth Forward, in which he mentioned an offensive formation known as the “Wildcat.” Forward went on to win the WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal game by 42-21.

Yuhas’ son, Shane, was relieved from his position as an assistant coach for the high school team, KDKA reported. He also told WPXI that his family has received threats in the wake of the incident.
