William Penn School District gets clean-fuel buses
Five Pennsylvania school districts will receive a total of 120 clean school buses, made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
By phasing out diesel engines, Pennsylvania students will be able to breathe cleaner air, reducing the risk of asthma and other conditions harmful to their health, according to U.S. Bob Casey Jr.’s office.
The five school districts are the School District of Philadelphia, William Penn School District in Delaware County, Pittsburgh School District, Laurel Highlands School District in Fayette County, and New Castle Area School District in Lawrence County.
Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Environmental Protection Agency is helping school districts around the country replace existing school buses with clean and zero-emission school buses. Of the 120 school buses, Philadelphia will receive 20. First Student, a third-party transportation company serving William Penn and the other districts, will receive 100 clean school buses.
