Saint Joe’s advances in A-10 tourney

Cameron Brown had 16 points and Saint Joseph’s beat George Mason 64-57 on Wednesday in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament.

Ninth-seeded Saint Joseph’s (20-12) advances to play top-seeded Richmond in the quarterfin­als on Thursday.

Brown shot 6 for 9, including 3 for 5 from beyond the arc for the Hawks. Rasheer Fleming added 14 points while going 5 of 7 (2 for 4 from 3-point range) while he also had eight rebounds and three blocks. Lynn Greer III had 13 points and shot 5 of 8 from the field and 2 for 3 from the line.

The Patriots (20-12) were led in scoring by Baraka Okojie, who finished with 22 points and six rebounds. Amari Kelly added 14 points and four blocks for George Mason. Darius Maddox also recorded 10 points.

Saint Joseph’s took the lead with 18:18 to go in the first half and never looked back. The score was 33-24 at halftime,

Zion Stanford scored 19 points to help lead No. 11 seed Temple (13-19) past 14th-seeded UTSA (11-21) in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.

Temple will play No. 6 seed SMU on Thursday in the second round.

Stanford shot 7 of 13 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line for the Owls. Joran Riley added 12 points while shooting 4 of 10 from the field and 4 for 6 from the line while he also had seven rebounds. Hysier Miller had 11 points and shot 3 for 14 (1 for 7 from 3-point range) and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Christian Tucker led the way for the Roadrunner­s with 15 points and four assists. UTSA also got 12 points and two steals from PJ Carter. Isaiah Wyatt had 11 points and three steals.

Stanford scored eight points in the first half for Temple, who led 35-21 at the break. Riley’s layup with 6:16 remaining in the second half gave Temple the lead for good at 51-49.

Mika AdamsWoods had 15 points in St. Bonaventur­e’s (19-12) win against La Salle (16-17) in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

St. Bonaventur­e plays No. 2 seed Loyola Chicago on Thursday in the quarterfin­als.

Jhamir Brickus finished with 18 points and five assists for the Explorers. La Salle also got 16 points and seven rebounds from Rokas Jocius. Daeshon Shepherd also had 11 points.

Charles Pride put up 13 points in the first half for St. Bonaventur­e, which led 4234 at the break.
