Cops arrest fugitive with several warrants found in Wilmington
The Chester Police Department announced the arrest of Willie Snowden.
According to the press release:
Snowden also known as “Woodah” was taken into custody on Friday by Officer Frank Myers, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the New Castle County Police Department’s SWAT team in the Trolley Square section of Wilmington, according to a press release.
Snowden was wanted for failure to appear in Delaware Common Pleas Court on a narcotics violation, stemming from a November 2018 arrest by the Chester police.
As he was incarcerated for the aforementioned case, Snowden was charged by the Delaware County Criminal Investigations Unit in June 2019 for contraband inside the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. That matter was held for Common Pleas Court, and Snowden failed to appear to court and an additional
bench warrant was issued.
While having outstanding warrants on the above incidents, an additional arrest warrant was issued for Snowden in December 2021 after Chester police conducted a stop on a vehicle being operated by Snowden. Snowden fled from the stop and multiple firearms, a bulletproof vest, and narcotics were recovered from the vehicle, which was located later.
Most recently, on March 12, an arrest warrant was issued for Snowden for Criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, persons not to possess firearms without a license, offensive weapons, and possession of instruments of crime, stemming from a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday March 9.
“Snowden has been on the run from law enforcement authorities since 2018. I commend Ofc. Myers and the teamwork from the other departments/jurisdiction that were involved with finally bringing Snowden into custody,” said Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretsky.
After his arrest, Snowden was transported to the New Castle County Police Department where he was charged as an out of state fugitive from justice. Snowden was processed and then transported to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington, Delaware, where he will be held until his extradition hearing.
