Penncrest students clean up section of Route 252
Upper Providence Township said Monday that 10 Penncrest High School students took to Palmers Mill Road (Route 252) between the reservoir and Rose Tree Park on Sunday to tackle litter and promote environmental stewardship in their community.
From 2 to 3:30 p.m., the students, led by Upper Prov. Junior Student Council members Liam MacKenzie and Tovin Styles collected 16 bags of trash.
The majority of the litter consisted of cigarette butts, paper and plastic products, emphasizing the critical importance for residents to adopt responsible waste management practices, the township said.
“We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by our fellow students,” Styles said. “Their dedication to preserving our environment is inspiring, and we hope their efforts encourage others to join us in our mission to keep our community clean and green.”
The township continued:
The success of the cleanup wouldn’t have been possible without the support and collaboration of key community figures.
Chief David Montella of Upper Prov police orchestrated the safety measures for the event, providing safety reflective vests while Cpl. Gary Essaf drove behind the group with lights on, ensuring their safety as they crossed the busy state road.
Special thanks are also extended to Mareile Watson, community relations and special projects manager at the township for assistance in coordinating the event logistics.
