An alleged bank robber’s loyalty to Kroger led to his arrest in a Feb. 12 robbery of the Day Air Credit Union at the Dayton VA.

DAYTON — An alleged bank robber’s loyalty to Kroger rewarded him with an arrest in a February heist.

Quinn Steven Morgan, 59, ditched the clothes police said he wore during a Feb. 12 robbery of the Day Air Credit Union at the Dayton VA.

Among the items recovered was Morgan’s Kroger Plus card, which authorities used to help determine his identity, according to an affidavit filed in Dayton’s U.S. District Court.

Morgan, 59, has been federally charged with bank robbery by force. No court dates have been set.

The affidavit written by Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent Todd Burkart says that a suspect approached a Day Air teller at 11 a.m. Feb. 12 and handed over a note that said, “This is a robbery. Give me $100’s and $50’s now.”

The suspect appeared to be holding gun in his right hand inside a jacket pocket, the criminal complaint said.

After making off with $610, Morgan allegedly discarded a tan jacket, gray sweatshirt and brown baseball hat in a storage cage in a hallway behind the credit union located in Building 305 at 4100 West Third St.

Dayton VA police matched the clothing with the surveillance footage of the robbery and found a Kroger Plus card inside the tan jacket. Burkart got a Kroger employee to confirm that the card was previously issued to a Quinn Morgan.

A witness reported seeing a

man before the bank robbery who was wearing a tan jacket. Investigators found a metal plumbing tool within the clothing that he purportedly meant to be seen as a weapon.

Forensic analysis from the Miami Valley Crime Lab showed that DNA from inside the baseball hat matched that of a previously convicted felon named Morgan, the complaint said.

Morgan has “multiple prior arrests and convictions for bank robberies,” Burkart said in the affidavit.

Court records show Morgan was convicted in federal court for a 1999 bank robbery. Morgan was sentenced to more than three years in prison, ordered to undergo drug treatment and an alcoholism program, pay restitution of $850 and perform 100 hours of community service. Morgan was also sentenced to three years’ supervised release.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records show Morgan was convicted in 1999 of petty theft and possession of cocaine.
