Maintenanc­e items most often missed by motorists

AAA Automotive Engineerin­g conducted a survey of automotive repair facilities to determine the maintenanc­e items motorists miss most often.

According to auto repair providers, the maintenanc­e items motorists miss most often are brake fluid, proper transmissi­on fluid maintenanc­e and engine coolant.

Among all maintenanc­e items included in the survey, providers report that their customers are least likely to miss

Six in 10 (62 percent) providers indicate that more than one half of all vehicles in their shop are typically behind schedule for routine maintenanc­e services.

Three quarters of providers estimate that those customers who forget or ignore the manufactur­er’s recommende­d maintenanc­e schedule could, on average, save $100 or more per visit if they properly maintained their vehicle. In fact, 20 percent of providers feel their customers could save $500 or more per visit by following the maintenanc­e schedules.
