DAYTON CHRISTIAN RAISING AI SING FUNDS FOR $6 MILLION GYMGYM
Miami Twp. school official: ‘This is a longawaited project.’
Dayton Christian MIAMI TWP. — School has raised $1.7 million toward plans to build a gymnasium, what one official called “probably one of the most important projects at this point in our history.”
The private school in Miami Twp. has never had a general assembly facility in its 54 years. The 31,000 square foot addition that will seat 600 — to be named theWarriors Center— is expected to cost $6 million and will have a long-term impact on students, faculty and the community, said John Gredy, director of development and community relations at Dayton Christian.
“We don’t have a large space where we can have a large general assembly. So this school has been needing a gymnasium....,” Gredy said. “This is a long-awaited project.”
Gredy onMonday announced a capital campaign to fund the project.
“You knowit’s going to meet a lot of needs — physical education space, general assembly space, as well as to be able to bring the Warriorshometo play their scholastic sports competitions there in our gymnasium,” he added. “So theWarrior Center is extremely important to this.
“This is for the kids,” Gredy said later, “... This is for them and their future and future generations. So this is probably one of the most important project at this point in our history.”
The203,000square foot school houses about 900 K-12 students on 45 acres at the intersection ofWashington Church Road and Spring Valley Pike, where it has been located for about 15 years.
Yet Gredy said the winter athletic teams have sometimes had to travel up to 20 miles for home games. Currently, those home games take place at Miami Valley School and Miamisburg Middle School, said Dayton Christian spokeswoman Julie Thompson.
