Vicemayor receives national honor

Kettering Vice Mayor Robert Scott was named a member of the AAPC’s 2017 Class of 40 under 40.

Scott, along with 39 others were recognized as the “best and brightest young profession­als working in the United States” by the American Associatio­n of Political Consultant­s, a bipartisan network of business profession­als.

“We are delighted towelcome our class of 2017—40 exceptiona­l individual­s who have made an impact in the political industry and their communitie­s early in their careers,” said AAPC President Mark Mellman in a statement. “We are excited to honor this class at a special event sponsored by Facebook, a fitting partner who exemplifie­s the same spirit of innovation as our distinguis­hed Award winners.”

Scott is the founder of the Dayton Tea Party, former Montgom-ery County Republican Party Chair and a 2000 graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School. He also was a deputy campaign manager for President Donald Trump’s campaign in Ohio.

Selected from more than 200 nomination­s, the winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony, courtesy of Facebook, during the 2017 Pollie Awards & Conference inHuntingt­on Beach, Calif. on Tuesday, March 14.

City hiringforp­ublic worksdepar­tment

The city of Vandalia is accepting applicatio­ns for a public works technician. Technician­s are responsibl­e for all aspects of the public works constructi­on and maintenanc­e, including streets, curbs, sidewalks, water, sewer and storm infrastruc­ture.

Technician­s also plow snow, mowgrass, openandclo­se graves, leaf and trash collection, painting and installati­on of traffic markings and devices.

Applicants­must be 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma or GED, and demonstrat­e 1-2 recent years of experience in outdoor work, vehicle and equipment operation, and heavy labor for extended periods.

Work will include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnights and overtime.

Candidates with a Class A CDL with tanker endorsemen­t or those will publicwork­s experience will be considered first.

Also, candidates­must obtain a Class A CDL with tanker endorsemen­t within six months of appointmen­t. Due to occasional emergency call-out, selected candidates must reside in Montgomery County or a neighborin­g county.

Candidates will undergo interviews, extensive background checks, and a DOT physical and drug screen. Starting rate if $17 per hour with additional fringe benefits.

Course boosts youth baby sitting skills

The Vandalia Recreation Center is hosting a class to teach children in fifth through eight grades how to become better babysitter­s.

The class, taking place on SaturdaysM­arch 4 and 11 at the Vandalia Senior Citizen Center, 21 Tionda Road from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will teach children multiple aspects of becoming a better babysitter. Skills taught will include Rights of a Babysitter, basic first aid, CPR for toddlers andinfants, andappropr­iate activities for children. There will also be instructio­n on changing diapers and how to feed a toddler and infant.

The class size will require a minimum of five with a maximum of 25, and registrati­on is required. The fee is $75 for residents and VRC members, and $90 for non-residents.

DPS holding special board meeting tonight

The school board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m., today in the Media Center located at Meadowdale High School, 3873 Whitestone Court.

The board is expected to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters and negotiatio­ns. Additional­ly, the board may choose to vote on recommenda­tions from the superinten­dent and/or treasurer.

Registrati­on open for Dragons 5K

Registrati­on is open for the 7th Annual Dragons 5K at Fifth Third Field to be held on Saturday, July 15.

All race participan­ts will receive four lawn tickets to a Dragons game, Dragons 5K T-shirt, Dragons hat, and entry to the postrace party inside Fifth ThirdField.

Those who register by March 3 will receive a bonus of two stadium seat tickets to a game in April or May.

Registrati­on is $25 in advance, $30 after July 9. Those age 17 and younger can register for $15.

Conservanc­y district holding plant, treesale

Orders are being accepted through March 13 for the Montgomery Soil & Water Conservati­on District’s annual tree and plant sale.
