Sometimes it takes luck to get into UD Arena
The Big Ten Tournament has the potential to be wildly entertaining. Maybe I’ll drive over to Indy and ... oh, what? The tournament is in Washington? Sorry, not driving to D.C. I hope the Big Ten brass takes note of all the empty seats after Maryland gets eliminated. What an awful decision.
I would like to publicly endorse the fine folks at StubHub and the UD ticket office. I bought two tickets to Wednesday night’s UD-VCU blockbuster from StubHub. When a friend and I got to UD Arena, one of the tickets (mine) was bad. I was told that someone was already in my seat. Rejected.
The folks at the ticket office were very nice, but there was nothing they could do. After chatting with the ladies for a few minutes, one of them gave me a ticket someone had turned in to be given away. I’m not sure if they have tickets set aside for pathetic fans like me, but I’d like to thank whoever usually sits in Section 314, Row M, Seat 3.
The next day I called StubHub, expecting to get the runaround. I was pleasantly surprised when they refunded my entire purchase and vowed to put their investigative team on the case. Anna told me StubHub has trouble with fewer than 1 percent of its tickets and it takes complaints very seriously, for obvious reasons. Five University of
Richmond baseball players have been ruled ineligible because they were playing ... fantasy football. The tone-deaf NCAA equates paying to join a fantasy football league to gambling. Almost as bad, the university turned itself in over this egregious “violation.” This would’ve been a great time to say enough’s enough and stand up to a bunch of micromanaging bullies. Besides, the rule-writers at the NCAA are too busy preparing for their bracket challenges – which look a lot like gambling.
I’m disturbed by this trend of walking off the basketball court as the final seconds of a game melt away. It’s funny to watch refs dodge the basketball when a player tosses it their way with 2 seconds to play. If I’m a coach, no way my team stops guarding the basket. You just know a brawl will break out one of these days when some goofball executes a windmill dunk at the buzzer, as the opposition is already mapping out dinner plans. I read on the ESPN crawl Colin Kaepernick has decided to stand during the playing of the national anthem next season. Ah, now that he’s looking for a job he’ll get off his knee. Good luck finding a new team, big guy. Can you imagine the outrage of the fan base of any franchise that signs this average-at-best quarterback? Tournament drought appears to be over. That crazy full-court pass and buzzer-beater that beat Michigan probably clinched a tourney berth for the 21-9 Wildcats, who today host Big Ten champion Purdue. Northwestern’s “best win” to date was its victory over UD in December.
Trending down: Kevin Durant, Adrian Peterson, Warren Beatty. Durant’s knee injury adds more intrigue to what has already been an entertaining NBA season. Golden State’s mission while Durant heals will be to hold off San Antonio for the top seed in the Western Conference. The two powers meet Saturday in Texas, which means we’ll be treated to about 500 game promos this week on ESPN.
