OAKWOOD CONDO PROJECT COULD MOVE FORWARD
Council to vote on agreement involving 84-unit complex.
The city of Oakwood will hold a special council meeting today to discuss an agreement involving an 84-unit condominium project at Pointe Oakwood, according to City Attorney Robert Jacques.
“A tentative agreement has been reached and council will be voting on it Monday night,” Jacques said. “It would resolve the pending litigation that’s going on and would allow some form of development to go forth at Pointe Oakwood.”
According to a release from the city last week, the agreement would resolve one remaining zoning appeal filed with the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court about the mixed-use development at the northwest corner of Oakwood.
The release describes the proposed settlement as “a three-party agreement involving the city, the developer and a neighborhood group.”
Two lawsuits were filed against Oakwood last year over two proposed condominium developments.
Fifteen residents who live in the Pointe Oakwood development near where the condos are proposed filed one of the lawsuits, with the developers filing the other.
Hills Developers proposed building The Pointe, a 32-unit condo complex on the corner of Far Hills and West Schantz Avenues, and The Trails, an 84-unit condo development, at Pointe Oakwood.
The settlement being discussed Monday would allow for construction of The Trails complex.
Last February, a council meeting regarding the development lasted for more than six hours and was a serious point of contention with residents of the housing community at Pointe Oakwood. After more than a year of pending litigation and backlash from residents in the community, the project could move forward.
“This agreement is something I would say is unanimously supported,” Jacques said.
Even if council votes to approve the settlement, there’s still one more step to take before the developer is in the clear to begin construction. The agreement would have to be submitted to court for approval.
The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 5 p.m. today at in the Oakwood City Council Chambers, 30 Park Ave.
