The defending national champion University of North Dakota men’s hockey team will face Boston University in the West Regional of the NCAA Tournament in Fargo at 2 p.m. on Friday. The other semifinal will pit top-seeded Minnesota against No. 4 Ohio State. The regional winner advances to the Frozen Four in Chicago in early April.

Will Wade is leaving Virginia Commonweal­th to take over LSU after guiding the Rams to the NCAA Tournament in his two seasons as coach. He replaces Johnny Jones. Rice coach Mike Rhoades is returning to VCU to become the Rams’ head coach. He previously had served as an assistant there.

Meb Keflezighi, who was a silver medalist in the 2004 Olympics and won the 2013 Boston Marathon, will retire after the New York City Marathon in the fall. He won that race in 2009.

College basketball: Running:

Barry Bonds is back with the San Francisco Giants just as the club had hoped.

Bonds, who spent a one-season stint as Miami’s hitting coach last year before being fired, will serve as a special adviser to CEO Larry Baer.

The home run king will work with the minor league teams in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“We are delighted to welcome Barry back home to the Giants,” Baer said. “As one of the greatest players of all-time, Barry’s contributi­ons to our organizati­on are legendary. He joins Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda and other distinguis­hed alumni who help advise the club and we look forward to working with him again. “

Bonds, 52, also will represent the organizati­on in the community and at various Giants events.

“I am excited to be back home with the Giants and join the team in an official capacity,” Bonds said. “San Francisco has always been my home and the Giants will always be my family. I look forward to spending time with the team, young players in the system as well as the Bay Area community.”

The seven-time NL MVP spent his final 15 seasons with the Giants and hit 762 career home runs.

Shortstop Didi Gregorius is expected to miss the first month of the season after straining his right shoulder while prepping for the World Baseball Classic. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Gregorius is likely to be sidelined six weeks. Opening day for the Yankees is April 2 at Tampa Bay. Gregorius was hurt while turning a double play for the Netherland­s in an exhibition game Saturday against Arizona in preparatio­n for the WBC semifinals. He returned to the Yankees’ spring camp this week. “It just happened on one play,” Gregorius said. “It was just a regular throw and it happened.” Gregorius, 27, hit .276 with 20 home runs and 70 RBIs last season. The Yankees have backup shortstops Ronald Torreyes and Ruben Tejada in camp, along with utilityman Tyler Wade and top prospect Gleyber Torres.

Eddie Rosario’s sacrifice fly drove in Carlos Correa with the winning run in the 11th inning at Dodger Stadium on Monday, giving Puerto Rico a berth in the championsh­ip game.

The Puerto Ricans also reached the final in 2013, losing to the Dominican Republic 3-0.
