New renderings show downtown pavilion
Construction on the $5 million Levitt Pavilion Dayton is expected to begin this summer.
The outdoor music venue planned for downtown Dayton still needs $550,000 in donations to meet its fundraising goal for construction.
But now, supporters have renderings to share that they say show how the Levitt Pavilion Dayton can transform Dave Hall Plaza into the city’s “living room.”
Construction on the $5 million amphitheater is expected to begin this summer, with concerts beginning next year.
“The construction of Levitt Pavilion Dayton on Dave Hall Plaza will be a catalyst for development in this historic and urban neighborhood,” said Levitt Dayton board member Dave Dickerson in a statement.
Dave Hall Plaza, located adjacent to the Crowne Plaza Dayton, will be reconstructed to have a covered stage and amphitheater at the southwestern corner of the property, located between Fourth and Fifth streets.
The site will have two main lawn areas, which will provide open-air seating. Also, there will be multiple sections of green space with trees that create a buffer from the street.
The green spaces are divided by connected path- ways.
The park will have stateof-the-art sound and lighting equipment and a large video board. The park also will have sculptures, signage and other facilities.
The pavilion will host at least 50 free, family-friendly concerts each year, includ- ing a mix of local, national and international acts.
The site will double as a public park that nonprof- its, community groups and businesses can use for special events.
The pavilion design recalls the “elegance and clarity” of early airplane construction and the innovation of flight, according to the Friends of Levitt Pavilion Dayton, a nonprofit that is working to make the amphitheater a reality. A rendering shows a contemporary-type pavilion design, with a roof that
does not connect to one side of the structure.
