Quarterbac­k Chad Kelly’s workout at Mississipp­i’s pro day ended prematurel­y because of a wrist injury. Kelly threw about a dozen passes at the Rebels’ indoor practice facility before leaving with what he said was a sprain. He said he first hurt the wrist on his throwing arm last week and aggravated it Monday.

Antron Brown piloted his dragster to the Top Fuel victory Sunday night at the 18th annual DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Brown, who won the event in 2016, raced a 3.747-second pass at 321.04 mph to defeat runner-up Tony Schumacher, who ran a 3.809 at 325.14. It was Brown’s 46th career Top Fuel victory and first of the season.

Motorsport­s: Olympics:

The IOC denied it covered up doping cases from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, after a German TV program revealed that positive tests by Jamaican sprinters were not prosecuted. No athletes were identified. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won three gold medals in world-record times and was the star of the Beijing Games.

Tennis:

Second-seeded Johanna Konta, who beat Caroline Wozniacki in the Miami Open final Saturday to move to No. 7 in the rankings, withdrew from the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, S.C., because of a sore shoulder. In first-round matches Monday, Alison Riske defeated fellow American Kayla Day 7-5, 4-6, 6-0.

A record 29.8 percent of major leaguers at the start of the season were born outside the 50 states, topping the previous high of 29.2 percent in 2005.

The Dominican Republic led with 93 players, followed by Venezuela (77) and Cuba (23), MLB said Monday. Venezuela topped its previous high of 66 in 2012 and Cuba matched its most, set last year.

Puerto Rico was fourth at 16, followed by Mexico (nine), Japan (eight), Canada (six), South Korea (four), Curacao and Nicaragua (four each), Panama (three), and Australia, Brazil and Colombia (two apiece). Aruba, Germany, Netherland­s, Taiwan and the U.S. Virgin Islands had one each.

The 19 nations and territorie­s are a record, topping 18 in 1998 and last year.

Texas had the most players born outside the 50 states with 14, followed by San Diego and Seattle (12 each) and the White Sox, Cleveland, Angels and Philadelph­ia (11 each).

Right fielder Stephen Piscotty agreed to a $33.5 million, six-year deal that includes a team option for a seventh season.

Minnesota honored Yordano Ventura before hosting Kansas City on Monday. The young Royals ace was killed during the winter in a car crash. The Twins also remembered their own former pitching prospect, Yorman Landa, who died in an offseason auto accident. The Twins then brought out longtime bullpen coach Rick Stelmaszek to throw the ceremonial first pitch. He’s the longest-tenured coach in team history from 1981-2012, and has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Matt Shoemaker will make his first start since a line drive hit him above the right ear on Sept. 4 in Seattle when he takes the ball tonight at Oakland — exactly six months to the day after his frightenin­g injury. He now wears protective headgear. “That’s what I think is great about it, because I’m not thinking about it at all,” Shoemaker said Monday. “It’s not even a thought.” Shoemaker underwent surgery to stop bleeding on his brain immediatel­y after he was struck in the head by a line drive from Kyle Seager.

Right-hander Pedro Baez (right wrist contusion) is expected to return next week after rehabbing at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Left-hander David Price (left elbow) is still working on increasing his throwing distances and is set to throw again today.

Left-hander Wade Miley (respirator­y infection) will pitch a simulated game today. He hopes to come off the DL to start Sunday against the Yankees.

Auston Matthews scored his 39th goal to set the record for most by an Americanbo­rn rookie to lead Toronto to its fourth straight win. Nazem Kadri had a goal and an assist, James van Riemsdyk and Leo Komarov also scored, and Frederick Andersen made 18 saves for the Maple Leafs. Matthews, a 19-year-old center from Scottsdale, Ariz., was the No. 1 pick in the June draft. The goal was also Matthews’ 67th point of the season, setting a franchise rookie record. Matthews scored in his 78th game to surpass Neal Broten, who scored 38 goals in 73 games for the Minnesota North Stars in 1981-82.

Evgeni Svechnikov scored the only goal of the shootout in his NHL debut. In the seventh round of the tiebreaker, Svechnikov went to his backhand and slid the puck between the pads of Craig Anderson. Tomas Tatar had a goal and an assist, and Frans Nielsen, Gustav Nyquist and Dylan Larkin scored in regulation for Detroit. Petr Mrazek stopped 41 shots.

Rookie Artturi Lehkonen scored two goals as Montreal won its fifth straight to clinch the Atlantic Division title. Florida lost its fifth straight. Jonathan Marchessau­lt scored his 30th goal for the Panthers. Dalton Prout was suspended two games for interferen­ce against the Flyers’ Radko Gudas on Saturday.
