Not long after DAYTON — point guard McKinley Wright announced he will ask for a release from his signed national letter of intent, reopening his recruitment process, another 2017 Dayton Flyers recruit said he is staying with Dayton.

Jordan Davis, a 6-foot-4 senior guard at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., met with new Dayton coach Anthony Grant on Friday and then sent a message to the Dayton Daily News.

“I’m going to stay!” Davis wrote.

Davis said the meeting went well. He thinks Grant will do a good job and he’s looking forward to attend- ing UD.

Davis averaged 1 8.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a senior. He was named the Class 5A Player of the Year in South Carolina. He finished his career as his high school’s all-time leading scorer.

Wright, a senior at Cham- plin Park Hig h School (Minn.), was named Mr. Basketball in Minnesota. He wrote, “Dayton remains a program I will strongly consider,” but he feels it’s in his best interest “to explore all opportunities with the change of events.”

Wr i ght thanked “all those that have reached out recently in this difficult time, and I can assure you wherever I end up that program will receive the best student athlete I can be.”

Grant said he plans to meet with each of the four recruits face-to-face. Nahziah Carter, a 6-6 forward from Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, N.Y., and Jordan Pierce, a 7-0 center from Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains, N.J., are the other two signed recruits. Matej Svoboda, a 6-7 forward from the Czech Republic, verbally committed to the Flyers but has not signed a letter of intent.

“At the end of the day, when all the dust settles, I never want to stand in the way of a kid that knows his best option is to do something else,” Grant said Thursday. “They established a great relationship with Archie (Miller) and his staff. That’s how it works. But as of right now, they’re all going to give me an opportunity to talk to them and reconnect in terms of Dayton and this program and my vision. Hopefully, we can keep them all in the fold.”
