This brick two-story, currently designed for multifamily living, is a diamond in the rough with original engraved woodwork, stained-glass windows, solid wood staircase, concrete-floor walk-out basement and brick interior walls.

Located within this historical district of downtown Xenia, the brick house at 136 W. Second St. has about 9,735 square feet of living space on three levels, plus five rooms within the basement.

The property is listed for $119,900 by McIlvaine Realty and has an updated dimensional roof installed in 2009.

Gingerbread woodwork surrounds the front porch, which covers the formal entry into the house. The long foyer hallway has pocket doors, rosette corner accents within the engraved oversized wood trim.

A curved wood staircase spirals up to the second and third floors. Solid wood spinals and wainscot accent the staircase within the foyer hall and the railing continues to curve up to the upper levels.

Many built-ins include a china closet with drawers and solid wood doors with wrought-iron fixtures. Bathrooms are plumbed for tubs and have showers but need updating.

The main level is divided into two individual apartments. Both have living rooms with 15-foot ceilings and tall double-hung windows surrounded by detailed oversized woodwork.

Both units have gas stoves within the family room setting. At the back of each side is an eat-in kitchen with a wall of cabinets and counter space with sink. Windows provide plenty of natural light and look out over the back yard and alley.

Both halves of the lower level have two private entrances in addition to the central foyer hallway.

Upstairs, the current floor plan has two more four-room apartments. Each apartment has a full bathroom, an eat-in kitchen area, a living room and a bedroom with closet. The living rooms were once bedrooms so there are closets.

Each half also has two entrances, and there are back staircases that lead to the lower-level exits. At the end of the upstairs hallway is a door that opens to a balcony covered porch.

The third level has five rooms, two of which have closets. Four rooms have angled ceilings and windows.

The largest room is above the lower-level kitchen and has several windows that look out over the back yard.

The basement has a concrete floor and brick interior walls. There are five divisions within the basement. One has the mechanicals, including a gas forcedair furnace.

Another room is set up as a workshop and has a door that opens to an outside stairwell.
