De Niro stars as ‘Wizard of Lies’ Madoff on HBO

Robert De Niro brings his epic talent to television in this film about disgraced financier Bernie Madoff, who orchestrated one of the largest frauds in U.S. history and sent thousands of investors to financial ruin. Adapted from a book by journalist Diana B. Henriques and deftly directed by Barry Levinson, it examines Madoff ’s Ponzi scheme — his deception, lies and cover-up — as he and his family are plunged into a harsh spotlight. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Ruth Madoff, Bernie’s longtime spouse and unwitting partner. 8 p.m. Saturday, HBO.

Now, let’s gaze ahead to a future that’s way, way off. “Year Million” is a six-part documentary-drama narrated by Laurence Fishburne that explores what it will be like to be human approximately 1 million years from now. We imagine a robot takeover. 9 p.m., National Geographic.
