De Niro stars as ‘Wizard of Lies’ Madoff on HBO

Robert De Niro brings his epic talent to television in this film about disgraced financier Bernie Madoff, who orchestrat­ed one of the largest frauds in U.S. history and sent thousands of investors to financial ruin. Adapted from a book by journalist Diana B. Henriques and deftly directed by Barry Levinson, it examines Madoff ’s Ponzi scheme — his deception, lies and cover-up — as he and his family are plunged into a harsh spotlight. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Ruth Madoff, Bernie’s longtime spouse and unwitting partner. 8 p.m. Saturday, HBO.

Break out the swimsuits and sashes, it’s time for the “Miss USA” competitio­n. Julianne Hough and Ashley Graham are our hosts for the festivitie­s as Deshauna Barber prepares to crown her successor. 7 p.m., Fox.

In the speculativ­e drama “King Charles III,” the late Tim Pigott-Smith imagines what life will be like for Britain’s Prince Charles after his accession to the throne, sometime in the years ahead. It’s an adaptation from a Tony-nominated Broadway play that predicts plenty of turmoil for the monarchy. 9 p.m., PBS.

Now, let’s gaze ahead to a future that’s way, way off. “Year Million” is a six-part documentar­y-drama narrated by Laurence Fishburne that explores what it will be like to be human approximat­ely 1 million years from now. We imagine a robot takeover. 9 p.m., National Geographic.

“I Am Heath Ledger” is a 90-minute documentar­y that delivers an intimate look at the life and work of the young Australian movie star who quickly rose to fame before his stunning death in 2008. Included: Footage from Ledger’s personal home movies. 10 p.m., Spike TV.

On the Season 13 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” the doctors’ lives are at risk after a dangerous patient escapes from a hospital room. Meanwhile, Alex must make a hard choice in his relationsh­ip with Jo, and Meredith has some big news for Nathan. 8 p.m., ABC.

“James Beard: America’s First Foodie,” a new offering from the “American Masters” documentar­y series, is a profile of the cookbook author, journalist, TV celebrity and teacher who championed localism and sustainabi­lity long before those terms had entered the culinary vernacular. 9 p.m., PBS.
