Austin Landing signage to address traffic headaches
As retail-restaurant center nears capacity, ‘wayfinding’ takes hold.
MIAMI TWP. — Austin Landing’s developer plans to improve signage to help patrons and improve traffic flow at the 142-acre mixeduse retail center in Miami Twp. Complaints about traffic and
the ability to navigate around the complex that drawstens of thousands daily and employs more than 2,500 people have increased with Austin Landing’s growth. With center nearing full devel
opment, more efficient “wayfinding” is needed, said VisCap Development President Larry Dillin.
“We have been focused for a while on the wayfinding so that people in cars, bicycles and pedestrians can have a better experience,” Dillin said. “Some of the circulation patterns have some challenges. One way we can help
with that is improving the wayfinding and signage plan.”
Changes — expected to start this summer — will include providing greater awareness of parking areas, creating directional signage for “districts” and other attrac
tions not visible from outside the complex, especially those near its center, officials said. They also call for cordoning off construction
zones — two new buildings are in the works — with more attractive visuals that better brand and promote the site.
