The Greene County Public Library has recently announced that it will sponsor the keynote address and Sunday Morning Craft Class at the 32nd Annual Summer program of Antioch Writers’ Workshop at the University of Dayton.

The keynote ( July 8, 7 p.m.) and Sunday Morning Craft Class ( July 9, 9 a.m.-11 a.m.) will be given by John Scalzi (www.whatever.scalzi.com), awardwinni­ng science fiction author and recipient of the 2016 Ohio Governor’s Award for an Individual Artist. He lives in Darke County.

“Greene County Public Library’s sponsorshi­p demonstrat­es their understand­ing of the value AWW brings to the region,” says Kate Geiselman, acting president of the workshop’s board of trustees. “We are most grateful for their support.”

“Antioch Writers’ Workshop has long been an important part of the Greene County community and we support their endeavors to appeal to the wider region,” added Karl Colón, executive director of the Greene County Public Library. “We are proud to sponsor the world-class author from Ohio, John Scalzi.”

Greenville Public Library’s

Lane Public Library

(Hamilton, Fairfield and Oxford) will hold its summer reading program “Build a Better World” for youth and adults, June 1-August 1. Learn more at www.lanepl.org/summerread­ing.

Lebanon Public Library

(lebanonlib­rary. org/programs/youth/) will hold its “Reach for the Stars” summer reading program for children and teens through Aug. 19.

Mary L. Cook Public Library

(Waynesvill­e) will hold its “Build a Better World” summer reading program for all ages, from May 31-July 31. Visit mlcook.lib.oh.us for details.

New Carlisle public library

(new-carlisle. lib.oh.us/content/buildbette­r-world) will run its “Build a Better World” summer reading program for children through 12th grade from June 1 through July 21.

Preble County District Library

(http://preblelibr­ary.org/) kicks off its “The Epic Quest” summer reading program June 1.

Washington Twp.Centervill­e Public Library

offers reading programs with the theme “Go Undercover” for babies through grade 12, as well a “Summer Experience” for adults. The adult program includes a community read of “Outcasts United” by Warren St. John. The programs run May 30-July 29. Learn more at www.wclibrary. info/src.

Wright Memorial Public Library’s

“Build a Better World” reading program for babies through high-schoolers is also under way, but continues through the summer until school starts again in Oakwood. Visit wrightlibr­ary. org/SRC2017 for details.

Wednesday, May 31 is the deadline

for writers age 15-17 (or entering 9th-12th grade this coming fall) are encouraged to apply for the Young Writers’ program at the Antioch Writers’ Workshop at the University of Dayton. The program will be July 8-14, and led by novelist and former high school teacher Kristina McBride. Writers must apply by May 31.
