Another chapter

- CAPTAINS 6, DRAGONS 2

I was channel-surfing Saturday, looking for background noise while I wrote this column. Here’s what was on my TV: sailing, major league fishing, soccer, the X Games and drone racing. That’s right, drone racing is a thing. If I knew a psychiatri­st I would have placed a call. Instead, I finished my column and went outside to pull weeds and put down mulch.

in the Luke Kennard Story was written last week when he was drafted in the first round by the Detroit Pistons. The Franklin native has been a great ambassador for our area and seems like the kind of guy who won’t let fame and fortune ruin him. Two quick stories about Kennard:

I remember watching him in the stands at UD Arena before a high school tournament game. He was sitting with teammates, waiting to take the court. Still, he had time for every kid who approached him for an autograph. He seems to understand that kids look up to him, and he acts accordingl­y.

A friend of mine who coaches high school basketball was on spring break in Florida a few years ago. He was at a restaurant with his family when he felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Kennard, going out of his way to say

Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman was not charged in the beating of a man in a Cleveland parking garage stairwell on New Year’s Eve, but authoritie­s say he was present and took part in the incident. Coleman’s brother and another man are facing felonious assault charges, but the speedy receiver eluded a date in court. Police say surveillan­ce video shows Coleman was in the garage, but the victim did not see Coleman hit him. Cameras show Coleman’s brother and another guy carrying the unconsciou­s man through the garage. Coleman’s attorney said his client had nothing to do with the assault, of course. hello to a rival school’s coach. Classy kid.

We don’t know enough

about U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka, who looks like he could be a bricklayer if this golf thing goes sideways. After he embarrasse­d the USGA by finishing at 16 under par at Erin Hills, he got a ride in a golf cart to sign his card. His girlfriend was next to him. FOX Sports anchor Jack Buck identified the attractive woman as a Florida State soccer player. OK.

A few minutes later, one of Buck’s colleagues corrected him, identifyin­g her as Jena Sims, star of “Attack of the 50 Foot Cheerleade­r.” Oops. I’m
