Kettering
Sometimes more is less, but in the case of food events and festivals, more is usually more.
How many kinds of food will be present? How many restaurants and chefs are involved? How many “tastes” will there be?
The higher the number, the more likely you are to experience more flavors and have a robust food exploration.
Such is the case with the Summer Restaurant Week promotion, which runs July 23-30 offering meals from nearly 50 restaurants ranging in price from $20.17$30.17.
The traditional “sneak peek” that happens before the promotion kicks off will take place on July 19 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Prime Time Party Rental.
Tickets are $20.17, which includes tastes from a dozen restaurants and one drink.
This year’s participan tsin the preview event include Amber Rose, Basil’s, Chappys Social House, Coco’s Bistro, ele Bistro and Wine Bar, El Meson, Meadowlark, Roost American, Salar and Wheat Penny.
Nibbles will also be participating in the promotion and at the kickoff event. The Miamisburg restaurant will soon be opening two doors down in a new location that will double its size and get a name change to Watermark, so be sure to spend a little extra time with them if you attend to find out more about the exciting changes that are in store. This restaurant is a favorite of mine, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with for their rRestaurant Week offering(s).
New this year both to the sneak peek event as well as Restaurant Week is Giovanni’s. The Fairborn restaurant will be serving up seafood lasagna and cannolis. Mangia!
The Restaurant Week promotion was established more than a decade ago as a way to generate interest traffic to local restaurants and help give diners a chance to explore the menu at a more affordable price point. The kick-off event offers a nice preview of what’s in store at the restaurants that are on hand.
“It gives people the opportunity to try new restaurants and new menus that the chefs come up with for Restaurant Week,” said Amy Zahora, executive director of the Miami Valley Restaurant Association. “With the major- ity of our restaurants that participate being independents, it’s a wonderful way to really support the restaurant community.”
It’s also a wonderful way to support several nonprofits. Last year’s Summer Restaurant Week raised more than $8,000 for local non-profits.
This year Zahora says March of Dimes and the MVRA Scholarship Fund will receive funds raised.
Due to popularity of both, Zahora suggests to make reservations in advance and buy sneak peek tickets now.
Andthemoreismore food journey doesn’t end with Restaurant Week. In addition to the many fairs and festivals happening all over the reg ionover the next several months, there are several upcoming MVRA events that are worth considering:
Aug. 10: Ta steofThe Greene
Aug. 20: Bacon Fest at the Fraze Pavilion
Aug. 24: Taste of Austin Landing
Sept. 16: Bargains, Bites and Beers at The Greene
The following is a li stof the businesses scheduled to participate in the 2017 Miami Valley Restaurant Association’s Summer Restaurant Week.
