XENIA MAN SHOT DURING VEHICLE BREAK-IN

- By Richard Wilson Staff Writer

Police have identified the adult suspect involved in a shooting early Wednesday morning in Xenia that lead officers to close down streets during a pursuit.

Nathaniel Alton Gorman, 18, is in the Greene County Jail on suspicion of felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation and having weapons under disability.

Two unnamed juveniles could be facing charges as well.

A homeowner was shot in the leg in the early morning hours when he confronted two strangers who were rifling through his vehicle that was parked in the driveway at his home in the 1600 block of West Second Street, according to Xenia Capt. Alonzo Wilson.

The victim was back home and recovering by Wednesday afternoon. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the upper leg at Miami Valley Hospital.

Police said the homeowner was alerted to a noise outside his home when his two dogs barked shortly before he called 9-1-1 at 3:41 a.m.

“When he went out to address the noise he heard, there were subjects inside his vehicle that he did not know,” Wilson said.

The two intruders ran away and one fired at least two shots toward the homeowner, one of which struck him in the leg, Wilson said.

Police got a description of the suspect vehicle that sped away from the scene.

That vehicle was stopped in the area of Colorado and Commonwealth drives. Three people got out of the sport utility vehicle and ran away.

Wilson said officers soon tracked down and arrested one suspect, then tracked down another at daybreak at a home on Sheelin Road.

Two males are in custody, an adult and a juvenile, and a third juvenile suspect has not been apprehended.

The identities of the juvenile suspects have not been released and police said the charges they may be facing have not been determined.

Officers closed West 2nd Street between Rockwell and Beatty drives while the manhunt ensued. Residents were cautioned to stay inside their homes and instructed to keep their doors locked.

Wilson said the victim’s car was not locked, and there have been a number of thefts from cars in the city and in the Miami Valley in general.

Police are advising residents and motorists to lock their vehicles and call police instead of confronting someone who is on property without permission.
