Here’s a sampling of some other serious incidents that involved rides and fairs in Ohio:
Cedar Point, 2015: A 45-year-old man jumped a fence to retrieve a cell phone and wallet, was struck by the Raptor ride and was killed in August 2015. The man lost the belongings while riding the Raptor earlier.
Cedar Point, 2014: A cable on the ride named Skyhawk snapped in July 2014 and injured two people at the amusement park when it struck them. The Skyhawk was a large swing ride that required long cables.
Kings Island, 2006: A total of 27 people were injured when a car on the Son of Beast ride hit a span of track that had separated where timbers splintered on the giant wooden roller coaster in July 2006. The ride was subsequently closed.
Ohio State Fair, 2002: A car of the Re-Mix ride in which two passengers were riding fell 15 feet face down, but both passengers were quickly treated and released from a local hospital. Investigators determined a crack in a joint caused the car to fall.
Medina County Fair, 2001: A steam-powered tractor exploded and killed four people after shrapnel and oil from the blast carried as far as 100 yards in July 2001. The tractor was going to be part of an exhibit of steampowered engines.
Kings Island, 1991: A 32-year-old Toledo woman fell from the ride called Flight Commander in June 1991 and died. State investigators determined there was a design flaw in the ride, and Kings Island later restricted beer sales after it was found Taylor was intoxicated when the incident happened.
