A Dayton man allegedly strangled to death his ex-girlfriend in his Blanche Street home on Saturday.

Keason K. Herron, 39, was arrested and charged with homicide and other counts, according to Dayton police Lt. Gregg Gaby.

Herron called 911 to report that 37-year-old Leanette Newton was dead inside his house and that he had been trying to revive her. Officers were dispatched just before 10 a.m. Saturday, Gaby said.

Herron was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, according to online jail records.

“There was a relationship between them,” Gaby said Monday. “They did know each other.”

Gaby said he didn’t know if there had been previous altercations between the suspect and victim.

Herron has been arrested for domestic violence four times since 2003, the latest being in September 2016, according to jail records. Charges never went forward to prosecution after the domestic violence arrests.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s office said Newton died from multiple blunt force injuries

with strangulation, and her death was ruled a homicide.

In a rambling 6-minute call, Herron tells a dispatcher, “Please send somebody right now” to 849 Blanche St. “I didn’t

even know she was dead. She was just sitting there.” About 35 seconds into the call, Herron started crying and got emotional as he said Newton was his ex-girlfriend who broke into his house the night before and that they got into a fight.

“Help me, please,” he told the dispatcher, add

ing that he tried to administer CPR. “I don’t know what to do.” Herron said Newton

didn’t respond to him and that she was cold: “I think she’s beyond help,” Herron said. “I told her to leave me alone. She wouldn’t. She’d keep coming over here to (mess) with me. Man, she

ain’t supposed to die.”
