Kickoff Sept. 16 with special edition of Dayton Cars & Coffee in parking lot by Carillon Brewing Co.; open to all cars; “The Wright Place to Be” Casual Preview Party, Sept. 16, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., open to the public, on the grounds of Carillon Historical Park. Party will preview some Concours automobiles and feature automotive art pavilion, music, silent auction, food, beverages. Tickets for the dressy casual Preview Party are $85 per person, $75 for Dayton History members. Reservations are required; Dayton Concours d’Elegance at Carillon Park, Sept. 17, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live entertainment, automotive art pavilion, variety of local food and beverages. All exhibits at the park will be open. The Wright “B” Flyer will make a flyover at noon, weather permitting, courtesy of Forgeline Motorsports. Featured marques: first-generation Camaros and Firebirds, plus evolution of the MG, and examples of the famed British marque from 1924 through 1995. Also featuring historic sports cars of Japan. Of special interest will be “The Cars of Orville Wright,” a collection of automobiles similar to those owned by Orville Wright, including a 1904 St. Louis and a 1910 Dayton-built Speedwell. Wright and his brother are best known for inventing the first practical airplane, but Orville was also quite an automobile fan and wellknown in the Dayton area as “Scorcher,” a driver with a pretty heavy right foot. A display of Miami Valley area historic racecars will be shown, with Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian Donald Davidson, Indy 500 drivers Jack Hewitt and Tom Bigelow also in attendance to talk with the public. All exhibits at the park will be open. About 200 antique and classic automobiles and motorcycles will be shown, judged for awards in 28 classes. The parade of class-winning cars, motorcycles and major award winners will be presented at 3 p.m. A number of specialty awards will be presented including the R.H. Grant Best of Show, Col. Edward Deeds Judge’s Choice, Charles F. Kettering People’s Choice, Jeffrey Siler Spirit Award, Taj Ma Garaj Award and Hagerty Youth Judging Award. A dozen nationally recognized automotive artists will have a pavilion to display their work. In addition, there will be a reunion of Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild modelers exhibiting their hand-built models that embrace automotive vehicle design creativity. A number of specialty awards will be presented including the R.H. Grant Best of Show, Col. Edward Deeds Judge’s Choice, Charles F.
