Shelter marks 44 years with Saturday event
The Humane Association of Warren County’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center will host its annual Stroll for Strays on Saturday, as part of the celebration of its 44th anniversary of saving homeless pets. Families, friends, animal lovers and their canine companions are invited for activities for all ages.
Pre-registration check-in and event-day registration begin at 8:30 a.m. on the shelter’s 2.2-acre grounds at 230 Cook Road, Lebanon. Festivities will also begin at 8:30 a.m. and include breakfast, raffles, doggy costume contests and a balloon clown. The morning’s events will conclude with a 1.5-mile walk beginning at 11 a.m.
All proceeds support the shelter.

The play is based on a 2004 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson titled “Peter and the Starcatchers,” and was adapted for stage by Rick Elice. As a prequel to J. M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy, it gives the back story of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook, and Mrs. Darling.
All performances will be in the FHS McDade Auditorium, 750 E. 4th St.
CONTRIBUTED stage shows and vendors, featuring nearly 100 daily shows, more than 135 artisan-run craft shops and era-inspired food and drink.
■ Halloween-themed attractions will also open their doors in the coming weeks: Kings Island’s Halloween Haunt will welcome guests Friday and Saturday nights, Sept. 22 through Oct. 28.
The Great Pumpkin Fest, the park’s family-friendly Halloween celebration, will run Saturdays and Sundays Sept. 30 through Oct. 29.
■ New this year is Brimstone Haunt, hosted on the grounds of the Ohio Renaissance Festival. The Harveysburg attraction will welcome guests Sept. 22 through Oct. 28, and will feature two unique experiences: Brimstone Haunted Hayride and Forgotten Forest.
■ Waynesville, regarded as one of the nation’s most haunted villages, will host guided walking tours on select October evenings. CONTRIBUTED
