Shelter marks 44 years with Saturday event

The Humane Associatio­n of Warren County’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center will host its annual Stroll for Strays on Saturday, as part of the celebratio­n of its 44th anniversar­y of saving homeless pets. Families, friends, animal lovers and their canine companions are invited for activities for all ages.

Pre-registrati­on check-in and event-day registrati­on begin at 8:30 a.m. on the shelter’s 2.2-acre grounds at 230 Cook Road, Lebanon. Festivitie­s will also begin at 8:30 a.m. and include breakfast, raffles, doggy costume contests and a balloon clown. The morning’s events will conclude with a 1.5-mile walk beginning at 11 a.m.

All proceeds support the shelter.

The play is based on a 2004 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson titled “Peter and the Starcatche­rs,” and was adapted for stage by Rick Elice. As a prequel to J. M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy, it gives the back story of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook, and Mrs. Darling.

All performanc­es will be in the FHS McDade Auditorium, 750 E. 4th St.

CONTRIBUTE­D stage shows and vendors, featuring nearly 100 daily shows, more than 135 artisan-run craft shops and era-inspired food and drink.

■ Halloween-themed attraction­s will also open their doors in the coming weeks: Kings Island’s Halloween Haunt will welcome guests Friday and Saturday nights, Sept. 22 through Oct. 28.

The Great Pumpkin Fest, the park’s family-friendly Halloween celebratio­n, will run Saturdays and Sundays Sept. 30 through Oct. 29.

■ New this year is Brimstone Haunt, hosted on the grounds of the Ohio Renaissanc­e Festival. The Harveysbur­g attraction will welcome guests Sept. 22 through Oct. 28, and will feature two unique experience­s: Brimstone Haunted Hayride and Forgotten Forest.

■ Waynesvill­e, regarded as one of the nation’s most haunted villages, will host guided walking tours on select October evenings. CONTRIBUTE­D
