Tennischam­pionships totakeplac­ethismonth

The Ohio High School Athletic Associatio­n’s 2017 Girls Tennis State Championsh­ips take place Oct. 20-21 at Mason’s Lindner Family Tennis Center

The tournament will feature the state’s top 16 girls’ high school singles players and doubles teams within Division I and Division II tennis.

On Monday, Oct. 9, Khalila Thomas, senior project coordinato­rfortheNAS­AGlennRese­arch Center, will be at Dennis Elementary working with teachers.

This is the result of approval of a proposal for NASA’s Educator Profession­al Developmen­t Program, written by the Springboro Community City School District. for a $14,000 grant.

The grant will allow the district to help teachers create and deliver process skill learning experience­s. This will provide teacherswi­th access to NASA content, resources and personnel that they can use, in the classroom, to create lessonswhi­ch will incorporat­e the engineerin­g design process, inquiry-based STEM lessons and project-based learning activities using Ohio’s Math and Science Learning Standards.

Math and science teachers for grades 4-8 will have the opportunit­y to participat­e in profession­al developmen­t activities carriedout over three days, with follow-up meetings and classroom visits. Full-day meetings will be held in September and early October, allowing teachers the time to implement lessons and follow up on assessment.
