A judge says jurors decidingwhether to recommend a death sentence for a man convicted of killing two teenage Ohio girls alsowillbe told about two women whose slayings he pleaded guilty to before his trial.
Forty-nine-year-old Anthony Kirkland was convicted and sentenced to death in 2010 in the slayings of 14-year-old Casonya Crawford and 13-year-old EsmeKenney, both of Cincinnati. But the Ohio Supreme Court last year ordered a resentencing hearing set for nextmonthin those slayings.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Kirkland’s attorneys argued Thursday jurors should only hear about the teens, not thewomen. Kirkland is serving life sentences for killing the women.
But the judge said the killings were “part of the same course of conduct” and jurors will hear about all four. that one of the cubs is 10-12 weeks old. The other two are around 3weeks old and came from a litter of four. The other two cubs in that litter were sent to a New Jersey zoo.
Visitors canwatch the staff bottle feed the two younger cubs at around 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. daily near an indoor viewing area for elephants at the Toledo Zoo.
The zoo in northwest Ohio had no cougars before the cubs arrived.
Cougars, also known as pumas and mountain lions, are found throughout North America. But it’s been more than a 100 years since a confirmed sighting in Ohio.
