Emerson continues upgrades in Sidney
Manufacturer has plans for $100 million project over four years.
Emerson Climate Technologies continues renovation work on its Sidney location where the company manufacturers heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and climate control equipment.
The company, which has 1,600 employees at the Sidney location 40 minutes north of Dayton, recently filed building permit applications for work valued at more than $13 million, according to Shelby County property records.
In July, the company announced plans over four years for a $100 million renovation and expansion of labs and offices at the 1-million-square-foot facility in
Sidney.
St. Louis-based Emerson said it started in July on the first phase of construction to build a two-story office addition onto the current facility, and converting existing space to new and expanded engineering laboratories.
In May, the Dayton-Montgomery County Port Authority’s Board of Trustees voted to approve a capital financial lease agreement with Emerson to further the planned expansion of its Sidney location.
That lease agreement involved an estimated $40.6 million of construction work in the second quarter of 2017 and an additional $33.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to Port Authority records.
In early 2016, Emerson opened its $35 million Helix Innovation Center on the University of Dayton’s campus.
The innovation center is a one-of-a-kind research and training hub where Emerson experts, HVACR industry leaders, and university faculty and students come together to focus on the technology, best practices to support trends that will drive and impact the future of HVACR.
Within the Helix, visitors find life-size models of a twostory home, a 2,500-squarefoot grocery store and a 1,500-square-foot working restaurant kitchen, all meant to give staff and UD students a place to study how to make those environments comfortable in efficient ways.
