Portman bill on screening for hearing loss becomes law
Measure signed by Trump continues program for infants.
President Donald Trump last week signed a bill sponsored by Sens. Rob Portman and Tim Kaine to reauthorize programs that treat hearing loss in infants.
The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Act — co-sponsored by Portman, R-Ohio, and Kaine, D-Va. — passed in the Senate in September.
In a press release, Portman expressed the importance of early hearing detection and intervention for children and the role the bill plays in improving it.

Brown, Portman seek trade protection for Whirlpool
Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman last week called on the International Trade Commission to protect U.S. washing machine manufacturers from foreign competition.
Brown, D-Ohio, and Portman, R-Ohio, have worked together since 2015 to defend Ohio Whirlpool Corp. from a flood of imports by South Korean manufacturers Samsung and LG.
