Learn how to address problem gambling
Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County’s Addiction Services program presents its second annual Problem Gambling Prevention Symposium, “The Intersection of Problem Gambling and Other Risky Behaviors” from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Friday, at Sinclair Community College - Building 12, 444 W. Third St.
The symposium will feature an exchange of ideas and information on topics such as: defining problem gambling and responsible gambling; current trends in the field of gambling; and problem gambling prevention efforts.
The keynote speaker is Cheryl Mahoney, a licensed social worker and certified substance abuse professional with over 30 years of experience. She has extensively studied process addictions and the health effects of “Screens” (Internet-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers). Mahoney will discuss how these devices can potentially cause harm.
The symposium will feature three afternoon breakout sessions. Session topics include: Fantasy Sports, Skins & E-Sports; The Brain, Gambling & Addictions; Creating a Successful Gambling Awareness Program; Risky Business and Stacked Deck: Engaging the High School Population; and a faith-based panel discussion.
The event is free to attend and provides free parking, lunch and the ability to earn CEU’s for counselors, social workers and chemical dependency and prevention professionals.
