Tree lighting is tonight at Downtown Plaza

The City of Mason invites the community to attend the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony tonight at the Downtown Plaza to kick off the holiday season. The event is free and open to the public.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony is the first of many fun holiday activities and events happening throughout the month of December. Be sure to grab your copy of the 2017 Christmas in Mason Calendar filled with all of the exciting events, activities and programs taking place throughout the month of December in Mason. Calendars will be available at the event and on the City of Mason’s website.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with Story Time at the Mason Public Library. Children and adults of all ages are welcome to join the Library in a story time sing along to all of the holiday classics. Registrati­on is not required.

Then at 6:30 p.m., make your way across the street to the Downtown Plaza and join neighbors and friends for free photos with Santa, an iceless skating rink, holiday music and activities, food and refreshmen­ts and the official lighting of the Christmas Tree. The fun will continue until 8:30 p.m.

That same evening, the Mason Historical Society invites the public to join them at the Alverta Green Museum, located at 207 W. Church St., from 6 to 9 p.m., for the Museum’s annual Holiday Open House.

For safety reasons, on Friday, Dec. 1 West Main Street from the intersecti­on of U.S. Route 42 to North Forest and North West Street from the intersecti­on of U.S. Route 42 to Church Street will be closed beginning at 2 p.m. until the conclusion of the event.
