Raiders go 3-0 in own event

Senior Justin Mitchell scored 15 of his season-high 21 points in the first half, and Wright State fought off a rally by Fairfield for a 57-56 victory on the final day of the second annual Wright State Tournament on Sunday.

Louden Love chipped in 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Raiders went 3-0 for the second straight year in the event. They won the first two games by a combined 44 points.

The Raiders led by as many as 14 in the second half, but the Stags cut it to one on a 3-pointer by Ferron Flavors with 6.5 seconds to go.

Wright State couldn’t inbound the ball and was whistled for a five-second violation. But Flavors missed a fall-away 12-footer as time expired.

The Raiders trailed 20-12, but dug themselves out of that early hole. They took their first lead at 24-22 on Mitchell’s three-point play with 4:37 to go, capping a 12-2 run.

They ended the first half with an 8-0 surge for a 36-29 edge as Mitchell scored six points in the final 56 seconds. His 15 in the half equaled his previous season high.

The Raiders started 4 of 15 from the field but finished 15 of 30 in the first half and 23 of 53 (43.4 percent) for the game.

Jacksonvil­le went 2-1 in the event, Fairfield 1-2 and Gardner-Webb 0-3.

■ Butler 67, Ohio State 66 (OT): Kelan Martin hit a layup with 3.8 seconds left and Butler edged Ohio State in overtime on the final day of the Phil Knight Invitation­al in Portland, Ore.

Martin finished with 24 points for Butler (5-2). Kamar Baldwin scored 14.

C.J. Jackson’s free throws gave the Buckeyes a 66-65 lead with just under a minute to go in the extra period. The Bulldogs controlled the clock before Martin’s layup and Jackson’s heave missed the mark at the buzzer — sending Butler’s bench onto the court for a boisterous celebratio­n.

But l er came back from a 16-point second-half deficit to close within 59-54 on Martin’s 3-pointer with 1:31 left in regulation. Nate Fowler added two free throws for the Bulldogs. Baldwin’s 3-pointer with 16 seconds left tied it at 59.

After a timeout, Jackson’s layup didn’t fall for Ohio State and Baldwin missed a 3 to send the game into overtime.

■ (At) Austin Peay 86, Miami 61: Dayton Gumm had 23 points, Zach Glotta scored 13 and Austin Peay cruised by Miami.

Gumm and Glotta each made three of the Governors’ nine 3-pointers on just 15 attempts.

Nike Sibande led Miami (3-3) with 16 points. Isaiah ColemanLan­ds scored 14 and Jalen Adaway 13.
