With the rise of kabuki theaters in the pleasure quarters of Japan as a popular form of mass entertainm­ent, many woodblock prints depicted these theatrical scenes. THE CLINE SHOW: ANNUAL ART & DESIGN STUDENT INVITATION­AL: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dayton Visual Arts Center, 118 N. Jefferson St., Dayton. Exhibition featuring the work of 40 college and university art and design students from across the region including Sinclair, UD, Wright State and more. Opening reception today from 6 to 8 p.m. Exhibition dates: Jan. 12 through Feb. 10.

SATURDAY

WINTERFOLK FESTIVAL: 7 p.m. at Yellow Cab Tavern, 700 E. 4th St., Dayton. Plenty of free parking available on and off street. A night of music, art, food and fun for all ages. Nonstop music all night and three of the area’s visual artists on hand displaying and selling their artwork. Drunken Waffle food truck will be on site and craft beer and cocktails are available to those 21 and up with proper ID. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the first performanc­e will start at 8 p.m. Tickets available exclusivel­y at the door for $10, children 12 and under are free.
