— Two inmates CLEVELAND involved in a large fight at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center that caused an estimated $200,000 in damage are accused of killing a 12-year-old boy outside his father’s beauty supply store.

The two boys, ages 16 and 15, are among five people charged in connection with the death of Abdel Bashiti on Nov. 24, according to court records.

They are now accused of being part of a large fight involving 12 inmates inside the jail that resulted in a response of more than two dozen police, sheriff and state troopers at the juvenile jail Monday night. The two were named in a list provided by the juvenile court officials listing the names of the 12 involved in the fight.

No formal charges have been filed in connection with the fight. An inmate and a sheriff ’s deputy on the SWAT team were hurt.

Juvenile court officials have not released more information on what happened during the fight.

Cuyahoga County spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan said the group caused an estimated $200,000 in damage to their housing unit, but that an official assessment is not yet completed.

The group broke security glass, damaged cell doors, sprinklers, parts of the ceiling, showers, toilets, light fixtures, a television and windows, Madigan said.

It took three hours for the SWAT team to bring the fight under control, according to juvenile court spokeswoman Mary Davidson.

Davidson said that the juvenile judges are unable to comment on the incident because one of them will have to hear the cases once the dozen inmates are charged.

All of those involved in Monday’s fight are between the ages of 14 and 16.

The two boys are part of the group prosecutors believe opened fire on a rival group standing in front of a liquor store.

Some 20 gunshots were fired at the group standing in front of the liquor store. Stray bullets hit Abdel, and a 7th-grade student at Parma’s Hillside Middle School, in the torso and wrist. Abdel was helping his father at the nearby #1 Beauty Supply and Linen on East 116th and Buckeye Road.

The other ten were being held in the jail on violent felony charges.

Some knew each other, including the two who are accused of shooting Abdel and another duo accused of committing an armed robbery together in September.

One inmate faces a charge of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity in a case investigated by North Ridgeville police. The underlying charges include the unlawful collection of debt, kidnapping, felonious assault, robbery, receiving stolen property and fleeing from police.

Eight face at least one charge of armed robbery. One, a 15-year-old boy, faces six separate armed robbery charges, along with a burglary charge. Three others face two armed robbery charges, including a 15-yearold boy who had previously been convicted of rape.

Others have also previously been convicted of crimes including burglary, possessing a replica gun, robbery and possessing stolen property.

One inmate, a 15-year-old boy, has been convicted for three robberies, a burglary, escape, assault and receiving stolen property. He was being held in the jail after being accused committing two armed robberies in December in Cleveland Heights.
