Performing Arts Alliance to present concert

- STAFF REPORT

The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance will present the second concert in the 2017-2018 DP&L Foundation Family Series, World of Wonder at 3 p.m. today, in the Mead Theatre of the Schuster Center. All three members of the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance — dancers from the Dayton Ballet, vocalists from the Dayton Opera, and the musicians of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra — combine their talents to open a World of Wonder into the Performing Arts for families in the Dayton community.

Dayton Opera Artistic Director Thomas Bankston, Dayton Philharmonic Artistic Director and Conductor Neal Gittleman, and Dayton Ballet Artistic Director Karen Russo Burke together present an engaging afternoon of music, song and dance.

The experience begins before the concert at 1:30 p.m., when audiences are invited to venture backstage for a lesson from Dayton Opera singers; walk across the Schuster Center stage to peek at the Dayton Philharmonic in rehearsal; and venture upstairs to touch pointe shoes, marvel at beautiful costumes, try a hand at stage makeup, and get a ballet tutorial from a Dayton Ballet company member. Then audiences can wander back through the Wintergarden for crafts and coloring or to see how it feels to conduct an orchestra on the DP&L Stage with members of the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Music and dance will fill the entire Schuster Center.

Tickets for World of Wonder are $22 for adults and $14 for children and are available at Ticket Center Stage 937-228-3630 or online at www.daytonperformingarts.org. Senior, teacher and military discounts are available at the box office.
