RTA expands options with RTA Connect

- STAFF REPORT

The Greater Dayton RTA will be increasing accessibility in previously under-served areas by adding RTA Connect On-Demand service in three new regions beginning Sunday, Feb. 18. This expansion builds upon the state of Ohio’s only public transportation partnership with Transit Network Companies (TNC) providing firstand last-mile options.

The RTA previously launched Connect service in the Germantown, Farmersville and Miamisburg area. Following the success of that program, which began in June 2017, the RTA has decided to extend the pilot to other underserved areas, increasing accessibility to transit across the region.

New RTA Connect On-Demand service will be broken up into three new designated service areas, including: Brookville, Clayton, Englewood, Trotwood and the Northwest Transit Center; New Lebanon, Trotwood, Drexel and the Westown Transit Center. In addition, the agency will expand Connect service in the northwest portion of Montgomery County and parts of Greene County, connecting Wright Patterson Air Force Base areas A & B, the Air Force Museum and Wright State University.

This service will enhance limited service that was offered through the former routes 40, 41, X1a and X1b, which have been eliminated due to low productivity. Through RTA Connect, customers will receive increased access to transportation including mid-day service, nights and weekends. It also gives customers the freedom to plan their trips around their daily schedule.

The program, which couples RTA vehicles, rideshare programs such as Lyft and other local transportation providers, allows customers to conveniently book a trip around their own schedule from designated Connect stops, receive a ride and then connect if necessary to nearby RTA routes at a convenient transfer point. From the transfer point, customers can access RTA bus lines to connect them to more destinations throughout Montgomery County.

RTA Connect On-Demand offers the convenience of booking your trip around your schedule. Simply head to your nearest Connect stop and enter the coupon code CONNECT937 into the Lyft app when you book your trip. No Lyft app, no problem. Simply call 937-425-8300 and select the RTA Connect On-Demand option to book your trip.

Connect service is only available when traveling to and from valid Connect stops within each designated service area.
