71/2 years for man in child porn case
A Dayton man was sentenced Tuesday to 7½ years in federal prison for distributing child pornography.
Chad Basney, 35, received the sentence in Dayton’s U.S. District Court for using an instant messaging mobile app to exchange child pornography. U.S. District Court Judge Walter Rice also ordered Basney to register as a sex offender and submit to 15 years of supervised release.
Basney exchanged eight image files and six video files with one particular other user of the same app and had conversations with multiple users, according to a prosecutor’s sentencing memo.
Basney solicited for nude images of minors and explicitly stated the sexual acts he would like to perform on girls as young as 6 years old, the memo said.
Basney was arrested and charged after a tip from investigators in another state that Basney was involved in distributing child pornography, according to a press release.
Prosecutors had asked for a 10-year sentence due to Basney admitting to sexual contact with two minor females that could have been false admissions, according to the memo. In her sentencing memo, Basney’s defense attorney asked the judge not to consider the alleged admissions.
