Spring Orchid Show puts flowers on display

Flowering orchids of all shapes and sizes will be on display at the 59th annual Spring Orchid Show and Sale presented by the Miami Valley Orchid Society, Feb. 17-18 at the Cox Arboretum MetroPark, 6733 Springboro Pike. Show and sale hours are Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show is free and open to the public.

Exhibits from several states will include hundreds of award-winning flowering orchid plants arranged in a variety of creative exhibits, pottery, photograph­s and other orchid-related items. The show is an American Orchid Society judged show which plants judged at both the local and internatio­nal level. Members of the Miami Valley Orchid Society will be on hand to answer questions about growing orchids.

Presentati­ons on basic orchid culture are scheduled both days at 2 p.m. and will include informatio­n on watering, repotting and other cultural requiremen­ts to successful­ly grow the largest flowering plant family on Earth.

Local, regional, and national vendors will offer favorite orchids for sale. Also available for purchase will be pots and potting medium.

The show is family friendly with all ages welcome to attend. Activities are available for kids including orchid origami and make yourself into an orchid photo station.
