Warren man dies in I-75 crash with semi truck, 2 cars
Passenger, 80, died when car was hit, struck by semi.
An 80-year-old MORAINE —
Lebanon man who died in a three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 75 on Thursday night was a passenger in a car that was hit by a second vehicle before striking a semi, according to police.
The Buick carrying Frederick Jung of Lebanon was being driven by a Centerville woman when it re-entered the highway from the emergency lane on southbound I-75 near the Dryden Road exit, according to a Moraine police report. At that point, the car was hit from the rear by a Chrysler in the right lane as that car was seeking to get off at exit 50, the report indicates.
The crash that occurred about 8 p.m. caused all southbound lanes on I-75 to be closed for about two and a half hours. It nearly involved more vehicles, police records show.
“The Chrysler in front of me rear-ended a Buick that had the hazard lights on,” according to a Dayton man interviewed by police.
“He hit him and sent him into the middle lane of I-75,” the witness told police. “I swerved out of the way and the semi behind me made contact with the Buick. I got off the side of the highway into the safe area.”
The Chrysler, whose driver police records did not identify, was going about 50 miles per hour in the 55 mph zone when the accident happened, records show.
The Buick that carried Jung was driven by Jean Hawkes of Centerville. The semi, driven by Cecil Clayton of Georgia, then struck the Buick on the driver’s side, police reports state.
